Are 3D printed guns legal in Canada? Well, this is a very interesting area. So if you have a particular CAD file of printing technology, you can make physical objects. And one of these particular files allows a person to make a gun essentially. It could be out of plastic parts, and it it’s illegal in Canada, so it’s possession of a firearm without a license. You clearly cannot have that. You could be charged with manufacturing a firearm, you could be charged with possession of a prohibited weapon or trafficking in firearms. And it’s a really sketchy area as to whether you’re allowed to even possess the technology for this. I understand there’s new laws going into effect so that’s a bit of a gray area right now, but it’s a very serious offense. The authorities are cracking down on this, and these are very dangerous weapons, in any event, because I’ve heard and seen online that, you know, depending on the technology that these weapons can break or explode if they’re not done properly, but they’re illegal in any event. So these are very serious. They can attract lengthy jail terms, so depending on whether you’re trafficking or manufacturing or possession, and especially if it’s being used in a particular crime.

So the bottom line is, any gun made of 3d print technology is illegal in Canada, the manufacturing is illegal, and trading in weapons, obviously, trafficking is illegal, and possession of prohibited device is illegal. And now, if you even have the technology, that’s a particularly gray area that potentially you could get charged with as well. So what’s the message from this? Well, we want this out of the hands of the gangs. We want to crack down, and that’s what’s going on in Canada. The authorities are taking this very seriously, and rightfully so.
